Please remember to Help Mittens and her Kittens!

I asked my Mom to remind everyone that we are raising money this month for Mittens and her kittens.  My Mom found out yesterday that Mittens is recovering well and that her kittens are doing great. We look forward to reading that they, like me, are adopted and will have happy spoiled lives ^..^  Any purchase you make during February will contribute toward the total amount we are donating to BARCS to help defray the costs of Mittten and her kittens, and also Marilyn, another cat that was harmed in Baltimore City a few weeks ago. The Ava Anderson line has expanded - it now includes skin care, hair care, makeup, body lotion, body gel and oh, so much more...check it out and help my relatives - www.AvaAndersonNontoxic.com/patlehr.

I am not sure what happened today! I woke in the middle of the nite and there was NO food. I was very hungry but my Mom seemed to be ignoring me.  Next thing you know I was in an elevator. I don't really think I liked that at all, but it was better than the veterinarian visit. I overheard the veterinarian telling my Mom I have "petite veins;" I don't know what that means but they must have liked them because they poked three of them. It took hours for me to clean myself up when I got home. Then I bit my Mom - not really a bite but she said I smelled and I did not like that - she said it was perfume and she wished I did not smell like that. I mean really, who likes to be told they smell after they spent hours cleaning and cleaning? Has she ever had a mouth full of hair from cleaning herself? I think not...happy weekend! We have windows open!

We Love you Kelly!

This is me sitting at the computer - I am getting ready to write a new post on my blog - I am so excited; you can almost see steam coming out of my ears as I think of exactly the right thing to say!  My Mom said I should start by wishing everyone a belated new year...Happy 2011!

January is a special month for us - on January 16th of each year we do a happy dance and celebrate the day Kelly and her family - Kathy, Kevin, Megan, Shannon, Murphy and Sadie - came into our lives. My Mom says Kelly is a wonderful friend and role model. I don't know what a role model is but know it must be good. We are thrilled to have the entire family in our lives and consider January 16th an extra special day. Every year we remember how thankful we are for the many blessings Kelly has had and brought to us. Kelly always makes my Mom smile - my Mom says you cannot look at a picture of Kelly with her beaming smile and not smile back!

In 2009 I was able to meet Kelly and her family. My Mom came home from a very hot and extremely humid day in DC looking, if you will excuse the expression, "like something the cat dragged in!"  The next week everyone came to our house. I had my picture taken with Shannon - it is one of my favorites! I would like to note that I would never "drag" anything in the house. That would be undignified and beneath me ^..^

Kelly and Megan spent this past weekend at the Ronald McDonald Camp.  Every time you are in McDonald's please make a donation in the little boxes that sit by the cash register. Those donations support the camps and the Ronald McDonald Houses throughout the country. If you are like my Mom and would not eat at McDonald's if you were starving to death you can make a donation at http://rmhc.org/how-you-can-help/donate/!

Merry Christmas!!!

HAHA - look how tiny I am in this picture.

Some of us may have snow, some not; others may dream the rain and mud is snow.  We will all have a great day! This year I am five but this is my sixth Christmas!  While I have learned to write I do not understand math and did not want to bother my Mom. I am excited because the other Christmases have been a lot of fun! The first Christmas we had Mom's Dad at the house with us. That was my favorite Christmas - I was a kitten and  used to lay in bed with him; we would play and he would sneak me food that I was not supposed to have.   My Mom has explained to me that stars are really spots in Heaven where all of those who have gone before us can look down and watch us.  Tonite at church she will remember all of those loved ones watching over us, and laughing at my antics.

Tomorrow my Mom is cooking again - that's pretty amazing!  Yesterday, we finished decorating the tree and my Mom made more bows for packages. They looked really pretty and like they would taste good. I swear sometimes my Mom can read my mind - she mumbled something about "Gabby chewing on wire" and the packages disappeared into a closet!  And excuse the pun, but my Mom went and bought some picked-over picks at Michael's and put those in the tree...oh, they look like fun. Some are these swiggly things but somehow they all ended up on the parts of the tree I cannot reach!

We wish each of you a happy Christmas Eve and Merry Christmas!

I Have a New Cousin ^..^

Last nite my Mom told me I have a new cousin - his name is Dr. Jekyll! I gave it a lot of thought today and realized that a Duchess (my name from the shelter) is still a step above a doctor so having another cousin is okay with me - I am royalty and the others are not!!! Dr. Jekyll lives with my Aunts and other feline cousin, Harriet Houdini. I saw a picture last nite and they are very happy and cute ^..^

This week we have enjoyed our first flurries at our new home and finished Christmas shopping and wrapping presents. Today, my Mom took presents and mailed them to California with happy Christmas greetings to the Gillespie/Miller and Laude families.  There were the most glorious ribbons I wanted to nibble on but my Mom hid the packages from me.  We have a new tree this year; I do not think it taste as good as the one from last year. It also has colored lights - I really like them!

This week there is a community party and my Mom is hoping to burn some cookies to take.  In preparation she has even bought new cookie sheets...poor thing she tries so hard! I am thankful that my food comes from a can or a bag and my Mom does not cook for me.

How Can You Not Love This Face?

This is me when I was a kitten - I am very very cute if I must say so myself!! Everyone seems to like me.  I run to the door and greet everyone. People say I have quite the personality. Sometimes I have a temper and my tiny pink nostrils flare but all-in-all I think I am a good cat.  I may be a bit demanding (this morning believe it or not my Mom ignored me when I wanted to play at 5am. I hope she does not make a habit of that!), but overall I am well-behaved, lots of fun and much much smarter than any dog!!!!

My Mom told me today that I was adopted. I did not know this and it was a big surprise. I thought there was a resemblance.  The leaves are falling from the trees so we can almost see the shelter. My Mom explained that is where she adopted me and that sadly there were lots of kittens to choose from. I won't tell her this, but I picked my Mom when she came in; she really had no choice once I got her attention. I mean really - look at my darling little face - how can anyone not fall in love with me? Or with any cat? My Mom said today that there are people that don't like cats. I think those are the people that don't know what it is like to have a cat...not only am I smarter than dogs but I can do something a dog can never do - I can purr. Nothing like the sound of a content happy cat. She explained that some of those people also play golf - really, doesn't that tell you something anyhow?

And I am a happy cat because I was able to post today. My Mom has been using the computer and I was glad to have time to write this note and wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!!!

During my time off I learned to draw!!

Those who follow this blog know that I know how to write, and that I can add and subtract very well.  I do not understand division and don't know what this "accounting" stuff is my Mom does sometimes but I think I am pretty smart considering my Mom won't allow me to go to school.  This summer I decided to learn how to draw. Today I completed a self-portrait looking out the window at the birds. I think I did a really good job for a first effort!  It is in black and white; when I asked my Mom for some water-colors she just laughed. I also wanted them to paint my white hair black for Halloween but I guess not this year! Christmas is coming so maybe I will get some paint then. I do have to start making my wish-list.  Y'all should be doing the same. There are less than 50 days to Christmas. I heard my Mom telling our neighbor the other day that we have a new Christmas tree. I hope this one taste as good as the last one. I love the holidays!

I Could Not Find the Power Button

My Mom bought a new computer about a month ago - it is an "all-in-one." I don't know what that means but when I jump on the desk I can no longer step all over a bunch of keys until I find the power button. So for the past month I have not been able to write because I could not find the power button. I cannot find that little cup holder I like to spin around and play with either, which is really disappointing!

Tonite my Mom turned the computer on for me so I am just writing a quick note to say "hi!" She also showed me where the power button is on the monitor so I can start writing again. I have missed everyone - I send belated happy birthday wishes to Kelly, Megan, Kathy, my Aunt Mary, and my Mom's good friend, Jan, who has been battling cancer for the past two years. My Mom said sometimes it is good to grow old(er).

Last week I went to the veterinarian. My liver values are normal again which my Mom was very excited about ^..^ I have gained weight. I did lay on my back with my paws in the air next to the Pilates machine last week so I am hoping that counts as exercise!
